Unlawful Gun Possession — The Graves Act

Effective January 2008, New Jersey has stiffened the Graves Act, affecting virtually anyone caught carrying a firearm without a permit. Even if an individual legitimately owns a handgun but carries it unlawfully (without a gun permit), they are violating a regulatory provision and are subject to harsh penalties — a minimum of 3 years in New Jersey state prison.

Under the new laws, many who have never had a problem with the law are suddenly faced with the possibility of a criminal conviction: an unknowing driver who borrows a car that with a gun in the trunk, a person who lawfully owns a gun, but does not have a permit, and a woman who chooses to carry her husband’s handgun for self defense. The list goes on and on.

Joseph Rotella has years of experience defending individuals charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and other gun crimes. If you have been caught up in the changes to the Graves Act, your freedom is at stake. Contact attorney Rotella now to begin the process of protecting your rights. Contact Information
